Tour of Utah, Stage 3: Bookwalter Fifth In Time Trial

20. August 2010

Tooele, Utah

Brent Bookwalter of the BMC Racing Team moved from ninth place overall to sixth on the strength of his fifth-place finish in Friday night's Stage 3 time trial of the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah at the Miller Motorsports Park.

Bookwalter 2:40 Off The Lead

But Bookwalter said he wasn't satisfied losing 18 seconds to stage winner Taylor Phinney (Trek-LIVESTRONG) and 16 to overall leader Levi Leipheimer (Mellow Johnny's), who was second in the 14.8-kilometer race. "The objective today was to win the stage, because if I had done that, I would have put a lot of time into the guys I need to get over," Bookwalter said. "The second priority was to get some time on the general classification and get a better situation to work with the next two days."

Difficult Criterium Next
Saturday's penultimate stage is a 75-minute criterium in Park City, home to BMC Racing Team physicians Dr. Max Testa and Dr. Eric Heiden. The course features a half-mile, 12 percent grade climb. "I'd like to think that a harder race suits us better," Bookwalter said. "Hopefully some other guys will have the same plan and we'll be able to work with that."
