Morabito powered his BMC timemachine TMR01 along the uphill, 7.45-kilometer course that is only 60 kilometers from his home in Monthey, Switzerland. His result was the best by a Swiss rider in the opener of the six-day race. "To be the best Swiss is not the objective for me, but it's really something special to ride not far from my home," Morabito said. "I knew the climb well because I came here a few times last month to see it. It was a nice to race here with so many of my family and friends watching." BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Yvon Ledanois said the result was good was a good start for Morabito, who has previously helped teammates win this race in 2008 and 2011. Morabito's own best career finish at Romandie is 13th in 2011. "For the overall classification, I hope Steve will be in the top 10 on Sunday," Ledanois said. Andrew Talansky (Garmin-Sharp) finished second in the race against the clock and Robert Kiserlovski (RadioShack-Leopard) was third.
