Moinard Shows Himself At Plouay

28. August 2011

Plouay, France

Amaël Moinard put in a attack with four kilometers to go Sunday at the Grand Prix de Plouay. But the BMC Racing Team rider could not follow the winning move that went just moments later.

Not Enough Power

Moinard showed himself at the front on the final climb not long after an eight-man breakaway was brought back. "I wanted to see if I could try something at the foot of the climb," Moinard said. "It was a little too early, but I wanted to try it. I just didn't have enough power to make a break." Grega Bole (Lampre) attacked on the final climb and spoiled the field sprint by soloing in just ahead of the charging peloton. BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Fabio Baldato said he didn't ask the team to get into the breakaway, which went away 25 kilometers into the 248.3 km race and gained a 10-minute lead. "We thought it was best for the guys to remain in the bunch and help Amaël, Michael (Schär) and (Danilo) Wyss."
