Kristoff Fifth at GP d'Isbergues

18. September 2011

Isbergues, France

BMC Racing Team's Alexander Kristoff finished fifth Sunday at the Grand Prix d'Isbergues, helped greatly by exemplary teamwork in a wet and windy edition of the race in northern France.

Beyer Helps Van Avermaet

Kristoff fought back after a flat tire, chasing for nearly 60 kilometers of the 204 km race. His mishap came at the same time that a crash momentarily held up Greg Van Avermaet, who was given a wheel by teammate Chad Beyer. "That was a great job by Chad to give up his wheel when it was impossible to give Greg support," BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Fabio Baldato said. While eventual winner Jonas Aaen Jorgensen (Saxo Bank-Sungard) and runner-up Stuart O'Grady (Leopard Trek) were separating themselves from a six-man group in front, Michael Schär and Danilo Wyss were helping get Kristoff in position for the field sprint for third. "Michi (Schär) did a tremendous job, delivering me with 500 meters to go," Kristoff said, "but I got a little bit boxed in until there was about 100 meters left."
