Giro d'Italia, Stage 18: Pivotal Stages Ahead

27. May 2010

Brescia, Italy

Cadel Evans will approach the stages that will decide the Giro d'Italia one-by-one, said BMC Racing Team Director Sportif John Lelangue following Thursday's race that did not affect the overall standings.

'Anything Can Happen'

Evans stands fourth, 3:09 behind race leader David Arroyo (Caisse D'Epargne) with mountain stages Friday and Saturday. Lelangue said the world champion is ready to move up. "I'm pretty confident Evans will be with (Ivan) Basso and Arroyo on the top of the Mortirolo and also on the Gavia. From this year's Giro we know anything can happen any day." Lelangue said there is no "magic number" Evans needs for the final 15-kilometer time trial Sunday. "We are only looking day-by-day," Lelangue said. "Most important for us is preparing to do something tomorrow and after tomorrow."
