Eneco Tour, Stage 5: Phinney Moves Up

16. augustus 2013

BMC Racing Team's Taylor Phinney climbed five spots up the general classification – to fourth place – at the Eneco Tour of Benelux on the strength of sixth place in the 13.2-kilometer individual time trial, while teammate and world road champion Philippe Gilbert also kept his place in the top 10 overall.

Two Hard Stages Ahead
Phinney said he thought his race against the clock went all right considering he was still feeling the effects of a crash on Wednesday's stage. "Maybe I could have started out a bit faster," he said. "I was a bit surprised I ended up losing so much time in the end because I felt good." Aboard his BMC timemachine TMO1, Phinney finished 11 seconds back of stage winner Sylvain Chavanel (Omega Pharama-Quick Step.) Lars Boom (Belkin Pro Cycling) finished 10th and held onto the overall lead, eight seconds ahead of Phinney and 18 seconds ahead of Gilbert, who is sixth overall. "Philippe's time wasn't bad," BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Fabio Baldato said. "They're both right there and can do something." Phinney agreed. "Two pretty hard stages are coming up. Tomorrow's stage is a bit harder than Sunday's stage. Sunday's stage is a nice stage for me. "
