Cummings Top 20 At GP Industria & Artigianato Larciano

27. april 2013

Steve Cummings of the BMC Racing Team tried valiantly to make the winning move Saturday before finishing 16th in a rainy edition of GP Industria & Artigianato Larciano.

Hard Day Of Racing
Over the top of the final climb and inside the final 20 kilometers of the 200 km race, Cummings was alone, chasing eventual race winner Mauro Santambrogio (Vini Fantini-Selle Italia) and runner-up, Patrik Sinkewitz (Meridiana Kamen Team). But the Vuelta a España and Tour of Beijing stage winner said he could not close the gap. "I was a bit afraid to go with them on the climb because I didn't want to blow," Cummings said. "I almost caught them at the top and then I got within 100 meters or so, but I couldn't close it. I just ran out of gas. For me, it's better to try to go with the winning move than to sit back and get nothing or get fourth or fifth." BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Max Sciandri said he liked the way the team rode in the first of back-to-back, one-day races in Italy. "They did a great job," Sciandri said. "Taylor (Phinney) was in an early breakaway and he was quite happy with the way he rode because it was a hard day of racing."
