Cadel Evans conceded time on Saturday's mountain-top finish, but not enough for the BMC Racing Team rider to lose his grip on second place overall at the Critérium du Dauphiné.

Penultimate Stage

Evans lost contact with race leader's Bradley Wiggins' group inside the final five kilometers as Joaquin Rodriguez (Katusha) soloed to win the 192.5-kilometer race. Evans finished ninth, 1:09 behind Rodriguez and 15 seconds behind Wiggins. In the overall standings, Evans trails Wiggins (Sky Pro Cycling) by 1:26 and is 26 seconds ahead of third-placed Alexandre Vinokourov (Astana) as the race concludes Sunday with a third straight mountain-top finish. "It was not an easy day," BMC Racing Team Directeur Sportif John Lelangue said. "But Cadel was fighting hard to keep every second and that was good. Tomorrow is another hard stage and we are still on the podium."
