Cancer Council Classic: Murphy Not Hurt Badly In Crash

16. januari 2011

Adelaide, Australia

The BMC Racing Team emerged relatively unscathed from a nervous, crash-filled Cancer Council Classic. The closed circuit road race held as a preview to the Santos Tour Down Under served as the team's debut for 2011.

Murphy Goes Down

BMC Racing Team's John Murphy, the 2009 U.S. national criterium champion, was involved in a pile-up in the final six laps of the 30-lap race. "The guys were moving up on the outside on the barriers and everyone hit the brakes a little bit because things got a little tight," Murphy said. "Unfortunately, I ran right into the guy in front of me. I couldn't do anything about it. I'm fine. Fortunately, no one ran into me."

Fast, Warm Race
Alexander Kristoff, in 32nd place, was the BMC Racing Team's best finisher. Assistant Director Sportif Michael Sayers said it was good to get through the race safely without anyone seriously hurt. "It was fast and warm and everyone was a little nervous before the start," he said. "The guys were together a lot of the time during the race. We just came up a little bit short at the end. We'll go back and re-evaluate and hopefully get a better result later in the week." Matthew Goss (HTC-Highroad) took the win.
