The countdown has started

Next Saturday, the time has come: Karin Thürig will stand on the starting line of the Ironman in Hawaii. Following a long, 19-hour journey via London and Los Angeles, she has had the opportunity to get ideally acclimated in Kona over the past two weeks. During the first days of training on the volcanic island, she kept the training light. "I drink up to 10 liters of water a day. The fluid loss during training is immense", said the triathlete. It is therefore necessary to first get used to the heat and finally beat the jet lag. "But in the meantime I feel great and my pulse is no longer elevated under stress." Karin was looking forward to the trip and the competition in Hawaii. She packed five thick books to pass the quiet time between training sessions and during the tapering before the competition. The right diet is equally as important. Caroline Steffen, the other professional female Swiss athlete, and Karin are sharing an apartment and cook their meals themselves. "You can find everything your heart desires - the fresh fruit above all tastes fantastic. The only thing missing is good Swiss bread..."

The Ironman Hawaii will be broadcast live at www.ironmanlive.com - from Saturday to Sunday night. Stay tuned.
