Tour of Austria, Stage 6: Hushovd Seventh

5. July 2013

The BMC Racing Team fell short in its quest to score an unprecedented fourth straight stage win Friday at the Tour of Austria when Thor Hushovd finished seventh in the bunch sprint won by Gerald Ciolek (MTN-Qhubeka).

Time Trial Saturday
Hushovd had won Stage 3 on Tuesday to begin a string of three straight victories by the BMC Racing Team that included by a pair of solo wins on uphill finishes by Mathias Frank. But after the BMC Racing Team worked hard to help bring back a three-man breakaway in the 182-kilometer race, Hushovd said the "chaotic sprint" was not to his liking. "We tried, but ended up too early in the front and I just didn't have the speed to go with the others when they started sprinting," he said. BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Jackson Stewart said the team will look to Marco Pinotti in Saturday's individual time trial. The new – and six-time – Italian national time trial champion will debut his tricolor Pearl Izumi Speed Suit in the 24.1-km race against the clock. "Marco won this stage last year but Fabian Cancellara, as a multi-time world champion, is always hard to beat," Stewart said. Kevin Seeldraeyers (Astana Pro Team) was involved in a crash in the final kilometer of Friday's stage but kept the overall lead.
