Tirreno-Adriatico, Stage 4: Evans Shines

12. March 2011

Chieti, Italy

BMC Racing Team's Cadel Evans powered his way up the final climb Saturday to sprint for third on the stage and move into second overall with three days to go at Tirreno-Adriatico.

Good Form

Evans said the 240-kilometer race that included nearly 3,000 meters of climbing was his first real test of his form. "I've been training since November without any problems and all the numbers in training looked good," he said. "But it's what you can do on the results board that counts for me in the end. Today, I rode more as a GC rider than for the stage win." Michele Scarponi (Lampre-ISD) took the win and Robert Gesink (Rabobank) held onto the lead, 10 seconds ahead of Evans. "It's a good position to be in and we have two more tough days leading into the final time trial," Evans said.
