Giro d'Italia, stage 6: Another day in "green" for Kohler

12. May 2011

Fiuggi Terme, Italy

Martin Kohler defended the King of the Mountains jersey at the Giro d'Italia on Thursday.

Tomorrow marks first mountain arrival

On the hilly, 216 km-long stage, BMC Racing Team's Mathias Frank launched an attack approximately 14 km before the finish. He wanted to close the gap to a leading group of three riders, who were approximately one minute ahead. But the Swiss rider was caught 5 km before the line.

"It was a little bit too early," said BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Fabio Baldato. The stage ended in a bunch sprint, won by Francisco Ventoso (Movistar). BMC Racing Team rider Johann Tschopp ranks 25th in GC, 1:03 behind the leader Pieter Weening (Rabobank). Martin Kohler kept the King of the Mountains jersey. Tomorrow the riders expect the first of eight mountain arrivals in this Giro. "Johann and Mathias are motivated to try something," Baldato noted.
