Eneco Tour, Stage 6: Phinney Is Second Of The Individual Time Trial

11. August 2012

BMC Racing Team’s Taylor Phinney scored the second best time of Eneco Tour’s individual time trial in Ardooie.

“Didn’t Hold Anything”

The U.S. Olympian Taylor Phinney was one of the favorites of Saturday’s 17.4-kilometres individual time trial. “It was a good time trial for me, I really wanted to win today, in the team time trial we were all very strong but unfortunate with the crash, so today was my redemption ride”, said Phinney. After he crossed the line, he took the best time and held this leading position during more than one hour. Eventually, Svein Tuft (Orica-GreenEdge) won the stage and took the race lead while Phinney finished in second position, 5 seconds behind. “I have to be happy with what I putted out there, I didn’t hold anything so I have no regret, Tuft was stronger than I was so he is the deserving winner of the stage”, said Phinney. BMC racing Team’s assistant Sport Director Max Sciandri explained Phinney did a satisfying performance and gave his best. “He did a fantastic ride, very strong, with a good cadence, everything was there, he putted out his best average power ever so he couldn’t have been any better,” Sciandri said.

Interesting Last Stage Ahead

Sunday’s last racing day of 2012 edition of Eneco Tour, with a 207.7 km race that includes the climb of Mur de Grammont will be “an interesting stage”, said Sciandri.“We will play all our cards tomorrow, Greg (Van Avermaet) is pretty up these days, Alessandro (Ballan) is going good and has the experience and Taylor (Phinney) has a very good condition so we have three strong men that can do something tomorrow.”
