Difficult Day At Giro del Friuli

3. March 2011

Gorizia, Italy

The BMC Racing Team endured bitterly cold and wet conditions Thursday at Giro del Friuli as former world champion Cadel Evans got his season underway.

Not Many Finishers

Riding through sleet and snow for much of the 187 kilometers, the BMC Racing Team worked to close a three-minute gap to a breakaway group of 31. "Cadel sacrificed himself for a good lap and half and brought it to 25 seconds," BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Max Sciandri said. "That's the moment where we should have closed it right there." Jose Serpa (Androni-Giocattoli) took the win while BMC Racing Team's Mauro Santambrogio was among only 25 finishers.
