Critérium du Dauphiné, Stage 4: Sprint For Murphy

9. June 2011

Macon, France

The only stage of this year's Critérium du Dauphiné that seemed suited to the sprinters ended that way Thursday, with BMC Racing Team's John Murphy finishing 14th.

Standings Unchanged
A breakaway of two riders that began early in the 173-kilometer race was brought back within three kilometers of the finish, setting up the field sprint. "I tried waiting until the last minute and just never found a hole," Murphy said. John Degenkolb (HTC-Highroad) took the win and his second stage of the race. The overall standings remained unchanged, with BMC Racing Team's Cadel Evans in second place behind race leader Bradley Wiggins (Sky Pro Cycling). "This was a nice, easy day before we go into the mountains tomorrow," Murphy said.
