Coppa Bernocchi: Good teamwork went unrewarded

Legnano, Italy

John Murphy took 17th place, BMC Racing Team’s best finish, on Thursday at the 92nd running of the Coppa Bernocchi in Italy.

Murphy all alone in the sprint
Luck was not on the side of the BMC Racing Team during the 199.3-km one-day race, the Coppa Bernocchi. “A breakaway group formed at the beginning and things were quiet in the field initially. When we came to the difficult additional round with a total of three climbing classifications, the pace picked up. Cole House and Chris Butler weren’t able to keep up. Simon Zahner quit after having two defects,” explained René Savary, BMC Racing Team Assistant Director. Martin Kohler, Steve Morabito and Florian Stalder worked very well together and put John Murphy in a good position for the sprint. “Just before the finish line there was a crash. Martin had to brake and unfortunately John was left alone at the front,” said René Savary, describing the outcome of the race. Manuel Belletti (Colnago – CSF Inox) won the sprint finish.
